Fees and Services

At Bushra Ali Solicitors, we believe in quality and understand that the cost of your case needs to be cost-efficient. We prioritise in providing you with dedication to your case, high quality preparation and understanding that the cost of your case is important to you and the importance of transparency on costs.

We have therefore provided you with a breakdown of our charges so you can understand how those charges are calculated for each type of matter.

We operate to provide you with an agreed fee and a range of costs involved in a typical case. We take time to agree the costs with you by understanding you, understanding the facts in your case, understanding your requirements and building a bespoke package that suits your needs. This is based on the work involved and how much involvement you wish for us to have in your matter.

We are a private practice and therefore do not hold a publicly funded Legal Aid contract. We cannot provide you with Legal Aid services.

Initial Call

Potential clients will call our office enquiring as to the costs of our services. Our staff will arrange for a call of up to 10 minutes with a fee earner to understand your case in order to provide you with a quote for our services with reference to the various options open to you. There is no charge for this 10 minute call.

Initial Consultation

You are able to book a one hour consultation advice session for a fixed fee of £250 plus VAT at 20% = £300 in Immigration matters where the advice is conducted by Ms Bushra Ali.

Please note VAT is payable if you are a UK resident and the rules in relation to VAT can be quite complex. We will advise you as to whether VAT is applicable in your matter, or not.

Where you wish to have a consultation with any one of our other fee earners, the fixed fee for the one hour consultation will be £200 plus VAT if applicable.

All our initial consultations take place in confidence, through virtual means with a qualified fee earner who will take instructions from you and provide you with detailed advice during the appointment following it up with that advice in writing. During the meeting we will provide you with options that may be open to you and the costs pertaining to the same including the likelihood of success.

Hourly Rates – Fixed Fees

Please be advised that this office operates on a fixed fee basis. That means that when we take instructions from you to understand what needs doing, we will offer you a fixed fee package based upon the number of hours of work we envisage in your matter.

To calculate that fixed fee, the rates to be applied are as follows:

  • Founder/Director/Solicitor – Bushra Ali – Charged at £250 per hour plus VAT (20%) (we will advise you if VAT is applicable)
  • All other Solicitors, Lawyers and Consultants – Charged at £200 per hour plus VAT (20%) (We will advise you if VAT is applicable)
  • We do not charge out the time of our Paralegals to our clients as we believe our Paralegals to be an investment in the firm to assist us in delivering our services efficiently.

VAT

We charge Value Added Tax (VAT) to all our services where applicable. VAT currently applies at 20% where your usual place of residence is the UK or EEA, even if at one point you had Leave to Remain in the UK but have since overstayed. If you are not resident in the UK or EEA, or you have entered the country without permission (example, Asylum seekers) and do not yet have Leave to Remain, VAT will not be applicable on our charges to you. We will confirm whether VAT (at a rate of 20%) is payable when you enquire with us regarding our services and we are providing you with a quote regarding our services.

Disbursements (Not Included in our Costs Quoted)

Our fees do not include disbursements. A disbursement is a payment to a third party. As such you will be responsible for paying the costs payable to third parties which are incurred by us on your behalf such as:

  • Home Office applications fees which can range from £1000 to £3000 per person depending upon the type of application.
  • UKVCAS charges ranging from £100 to £500 depending upon the type of appointment being booked and type of application.
  • Immigration Health Surcharge ranging from £300 to £1500 depending upon the type of leave and length of leave being sought.
  • Expert report fees can range from £50 through to £2500 depending upon the type of report required and the type of expert. Reports can be required for example from:
    • Psychiatrist/Doctor/Counsellor
    • Country Expert reports
    • Document Authentication reports
    • Hospital/GP reports
  • Interpreter fees for interpreting during an appointment with our office, and if incurring travel or waiting time would be separate costs for the same and if an interpreter needs to be booked by this office for an appointment elsewhere for example, a detention centre, the Home Office or the Tribunal then there would be separate costs for that.
  • Document translation costs which are usually based upon the number of words that require translation which can range from £0.35 per word to up to £0.75 per word.

All the above charges are subject to VAT at 20% where appliable.

If any of the above disbursements are applicable to your matter, during your initial appointment with us you would be fully informed of the type of disbursements that are likely to be incurred and what they may cost.
